Economic Outlook and Global Challenges at the New York Forum

The forum entitled “Latin America, the United States and Spain in the Global Economy”, where you found the market in New York, was organized by THE COUNTRY and the Chamber of Commerce of Spain-United States. This event brought together important leaders to analyze the current economic situation and relations between these regions.

The President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, addressed the day with a speech reflecting on the factors that have weakened Spain's economic resilience in recent years, highlighting the end of a cycle marked by challenges such as the inflationary crisis.

Reflections on the economic cycle in Spain

Sánchez said: “We are at the end of an economic cycle that has marked us during these last years.” He noted that Spain has managed the inflation crisis more effectively than other European economies and that, for the first time in 15 years, it has faced the European Union's excessive deficit procedure.

The president also mentioned the «Iberian solution» as an example of innovation in energy consumption, stressing that Spain is currently going through «one of its best moments». The forum also served to highlight the relevance of social policies in economic development. Sánchez expressed satisfaction that his government had made social peace a hallmark in Spain, promoting a more stable and growth-friendly environment.

Global and sustainable solutions

The event continued with the participation of several personalities, including the Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, who opened the day by analyzing the current complex international context. Albares explained the need for a unified and decisive response before significant changes in global politics, citing the recent crisis in Lebanon as an example of the responses that countries have faced.

Joseph Oughourlian, president of PRISA, demonstrated the importance of Latin America in the global economy and reaffirmed Spain's commitment to the region, recalling that a considerable part of PRISA's resources come from all over. Crucial issues such as sustainability and energy transition were also discussed, with experts such as Margarita Oliva Sainz de Aja and Miguel Stilwell de Andrade speaking on strategies to achieve a greener economy.

Artificial Intelligence and its Impact

Another relevant topic in the forum was artificial intelligence (AI) and its role in digital transformation. Pilar Manchón of Google and Domingo González of Nestlé discussed the potential of generative AI to revolutionize different sectors. This debate was hampered by the importance of establishing a common space between Iberoamerica, Spain and the United States in areas such as education, science and culture, a point that was addressed in the speeches of Carme Artigas and Mariano Jabonero.
