Inauguration of the new Egidio Feruglio paleontological museum in Trelew

The governor of Chubut, Ignacio «Nacho» Torres, celebrated the inauguration of the restoration Egidio Feruglio Paleontological Museum (MEF)highlighting its importance on a local, national and international level. The new building not only houses a large collection of fossils, but also includes a Convention Center and modern technologies to enhance the visitor experience.

A Transformador project

During his speech, Torres became convinced that the MEF is “the cornerstone” of a renewed Trelew. «This museum is part of our identity», he stated, underlining the need to make up for time lost during previous administrations. The inaugural event attracted a multitude of institutional representatives, officials and ministers, and was nominated by the Orquesta Infanto Juvenil of the Inta barrio.

Recognition to the Pioneers

The act included sending awards to former presidents and honorary presidents of the MEF, such as Edgardo Cúneo and Viviana Ponce de León. Messages of congratulation are also sent to deceased national and international paleontologists, which underline the relevance of the museum in the scientific field.

Incorporation of new technologies

The director of the MEF, Rubén Cúneo, destroyed the technological innovations incorporated into the museum. The permanent exhibit has tripled its original size and now includes a replica of the skeleton of the Patagotitan mayorumas well as new fossils and dinosaurs that were never before exhibited. It has implemented interactive projections and a design that combines technology with the authenticity of the Hallazgos.

A First Class Convention Center

The new MEF has a Convention Center that can host events for up to 850 people, with modern installations, equipped kitchens and designed acoustic spaces. This infrastructure will not only benefit the museum, but will also stimulate tourism in the region, generating economic development time and opportunities.

Future prospects

Trelew Intendant Gerardo Merino also highlighted the importance of the MEF to the town, noting that its development will foster tourism in sporting, scientific and cultural events. The presence of ambassadors from the European Union, the United Arab Emirates and Japan at the inauguration reflects the international potential of the museum.
