IX ALESDE Congress at the National University of La Plata

The President of the National University of La Plata (UNLP), Martin Lopez Armengolinaugurated this morning the IX Congress of the Asociación Latinoamericano de Estudios Socioculturales del Deporte (ALESDE), entitled «Sports, democratic practices and society: new concerns and disappointments in regional issues.» The event will take place in Cabo in the building Sergio Karakachoff until tomorrow morning.

Inauguration and message from the president

During the opening, López Armengol was accompanied by various authorities, including the vice dean of the Facultad de Humanidades y Ciencias de la Educación (FAHCE), Martin Legarraldeyour director general of Congress, Jorge Saravi. In his speech, the president of the UNLP highlighted the importance of the university in the Argentine social context, stating that:

“The UNLP has always focused on society, promoting the transfer of knowledge to the community. I faced a complex context, but here we have the obligation to give answers.”

López Armengol is convinced that academic activities are fundamental to the existence of the university and that they are essential to promote spaces for the international exchange of knowledge.

ALESDE and its relevance

ALESDE, founded in 2007, brings together researchers, professors and students from Latin America who are dedicated to the social studies of sports. This congress, held for the first time in Argentina, has had previous editions in Brazil, Venezuela, Chile, Colombia and Mexico.

Objectives of the congress

The Congress is looking for:

  • Reflection and debate on the central themes of social studies of deporte in Latin America.
  • Share advances in research and experiences related to equality, inclusion and democratic practices in transport.

UNLP, in collaboration with ALESDE and other institutions, reaffirms its commitment to academic and social development through the promotion of spaces for dialogue and reflection on issues relevant to society. This congress represents a valuable opportunity to strengthen the connection between academia and the community in the field of sport.
