Next Sunday 6 October, Viña del Mar will be the setting for the Puma Maratón Internacional, which will bring together 14 million athletes and mark a blow to being the first with neutral carbon. Mayor Macarena Ripamonti highlighted the importance of this sporting event, which coincides with the celebration of the city's 150th anniversary.
Event details
The marathon will be held over distances of 42, 21 and 10 kilometers, starting in the first sector of Reñaca. The alcaldea is enthusiastic that sport is a strategic tool for the development of Viña del Mar and that the city is well positioned to host world events.
During the inauguration, Ripamonti presented the design of the medals that will be presented to the ganadores, which include emblematic images of the city, such as the Castillo Wulff and the Reloj de Flores.
Coordination and safety
The event was possible thanks to the collaboration of several institutions, including the Seremi de Transportes, the Carabineros and the Armada de Chile. To ensure the safety and good development of the road, a transit plan will be implemented starting at 06:00 on the day of the event.
Lieutenant Colonel Francisco Villablanca of the Carabineros moved away and was driving medida to minimize the impact on the city during the marathon.
A unique marathon
Francisca Aguirre, executive director of the Puma Maratón, responded that this will be an exceptional event, not only for its 10-year trajectory, but also for its commitment to sustainability in order to be carbon neutral.
